I never said Sisera was worse than the Israelites.
I merely pointed out that he got what he deserved.

Not to sound like I'm judging, because I'm not, rather I'm trying to make sense of this. You admired his killer?
in exodus jehovah killed the egyptians.ahud stabbed eglon in his abdomen, people in a city (don't remember which one) would eat their own children,jw's back then sacrificed their babies to moloch and the list goes on.so why jw's have to avoid books, music, movies which contain violence?

Well, now, aren't you special?
That was a Kenite woman - Jael.
I admire her so much that I gave my daughter her name.
Served Sisera right.
He drove a war chariot that was outfitted with iron scythes.
Can you imagine the mayhem he caused on the battlefield?
Returning to the topic: The WT presumes to speak for God.
Like any good Father, God is not at all averse to violence when it comes to defending his people.

Ohhh c'mon!!! Since when are there rules in warfare? Not to mention, the Israelites committed Genocide, rape, slavery, injustice, but Sisera was worse than them because he had iron scythes on his chariot? SMH

I talked to my dad over the weekend, and when I told him that I'd be watching the Hopkins/Pascal fight, he was joking with me about it being wrong to watch that. Later on that night, he called me, which surprised me because he usually hits the sack around 10:30pm. Not to mention Dirk and the Mavs were giving Oklahoma a thorough shalacking, so I know he didn't stay up to finish the late 3rd and 4th quarter of that game. When I was younger he was an avid fight fan, which rubbed off on me. Marvin Hagler was that dude back then, and I've been hooked on fighting ever since he took out Hearns. So when I seen who it was on my caller id, I knew he watched the fight. I picked up, and he was excited just like I was because Hopkins got that young boy. My dad was like, "I aint fooling with you, you gonna lose your life, and you're gonna cause me to lose mines. People are gonna be in paradise asking what happened to me. Losing my life over Bernard Hopkins, nope not me."
Another thing, the WT encourages a blood lust within JWs, and I remember being confused when I was younger because of this. On one hand JWs are taught that we love our neighbors, yet we can't wait for them to be destroyed. On top of that, the bloodlust is supported by handpicked scriptures. JWs love talking about the Egyptians getting drowned, or the double edged sword causing King Eglon's fecal matter to come out, or Samson smashing Phillistines with a jaw bone, or the Jewess driving a tent spike in someone's ear. All of that's acceptable, but boxing.....thats bad. SMH.
i am an atheist.
i arrived at this juncture in my life despite not wanting to.
when i first met the witnesses at 22 i was a seeker looking for answers to the question of life - in other words, prime cult target material.
Unshackled, good thead, thanks for posting this.
Me personally, I think I can see where you're coming from. There's some days I look at my upbringing as a born-in JW, and I feel a hatred in my heart towards this organization and its leadership that can't be quenched. It eventually leads me to questions about God and Jesus. One of hobbies is True Crime. I've always been fascinated by the underworld, mobs, street gangs, prison gangs, drug dealers, etc.. One thing I learned about prison gangs, is that its not a good thing to claim you belong to a prison gang under false pretenses, or even a street gang thats affilated with a major prison gang. The reason being is that the leadership within the prison gang will do their investigation to verify you are who you claim to be, and if you've been false flagging as they call it, you'll get dealt with. You know I have to say thats more than what God or Jesus will do when it comes to those that claim to speak in their names. When I look at the WT, for them to claim to have been selected in 1918/1919 by Jesus, and then call themselves witnesses of Jehovah which is probably a mistranslation of his name, I have to ask what is God doing? Why allow fraudulent groups and individuals to represent you? Why allow these groups and individuals to hurt so many people? It makes me wonder whether or not God and Christ exist.
Another thing is, as a born-in, you're taught from a young age to hate other religions. You're taught simple arguments to use against other Christian denominations. Considering that most people in this country are indifferent to religious beliefs, or don't want to argue, it makes you believe that what you've been taught is accurate, when the reality is you've never really been challenged before. Even this past week's WT Study article mentioned atheists and agnostics as dishonorable to God. That's just the religous aspect of it when it comes to other Christians with differing beliefs on doctrinal matters. Then you throw into the mix atheists and agnostics who've really sat down and questioned matters that the average Christian/Jew/Muslim has never considered. If you've grown up in a fundementalist household and the religion forced upon you ultimately fails, then whats next? Atheism or Agnosticism, both of which I personally feel are the only categories that define the only really honest people left in this society. I'm still trying desperately to believe, and this past weekend I purchased a Chronological Bible, and I have to say as far as books go, it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I've been hooked on it, its as if my faith just experienced a rebirth, and I'm excited to see where this takes me. I also purchased Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History. I'm not ready to go atheist just yet, but definately can understand where they're coming from, and definately respect the agnostic's position.
obves was wrong and is crazy because we are still here.
who agrees with me?
lol.
I don't think they're crazy, just misguided as the result of their need to believe there's something more to life than what meets the eye.
Wow, thanks for sharing. I shouldn't be amazed, but it never ceases to fascinate me how similar everyone's story is. Welcome to the forum.
Its something seeing all these new posters. Is there a way to gauge how many new posters there are?
from failbook.
someone posted on facebook that jesus beats all other heros.
a batman fan challanged that assumption.
Well put SD. Reminds me of this.......
so i'm walking by the breakroom and i hear voices by the watercooler.
two co-workers, one of them a jw, are talking about the failed rapture prophecy.
it's not a serious discussion...they're laughing and making fun of harold camping and how silly his followers must've felt sometime saturday night.
I actually stopped in my tracks, listened for a few seconds and started to go in and find a way to interject in the conversation, but I didn't. It would be pointless...and rude. Plus it would only embarrass him in front of the co-worker and he is actually a nice guy. I kinda like him. I gave him a break...
Like Wobble said, you did the right thing. You remember how awkward it was to discuss JW beliefs in a nonJW setting amongst nonJWs. I swear few things are more awkward than those settings.
on another thread, mrsjones said: .
and before anyone says anything this conversation was not in an email nor was it through personal message, it was not private.
it's on my fb newsfeed and any one of my friends can access the conversation.. it got me to thinking.
There was a guy working at where I'm working at now, and i trained him. He was flamboyantly gay and had ADHD/OCC to boot. He was one of the worst backstabbers you could ever work with. He got a promotion, and in this new spot, he and another girl's who I also trained before they got promotions, were messing up to the point that it started affecting my own work. So I sent both of them an email essentially telling them they're effing up and to get it together. What was telling about both of their makeups, was the girl actually came over to me and we discussed the matter. The guy took the email, printed it, and took it to my supervisor, and i got called in the office later on. This was some years ago, and I didn't fully grasp the sensitive nature of white collar enviroments. At the time I was used to blue collar where if you have a problem with a guy, you take it to him, and whatever happens, so be it. I remember a female lead here told me later after the incident that you never under any circumstances email anything that inflammatory. Never leave any evidence that can be traced, make sure its verbal so that it doesn't come back to bite you. That feminine dude actually got fired later on down the line by the same supervisor who called me in the office. I wasn't in that day, but I heard he crying, sniffling and snotting, the whole nine. I learned a valuable lesson of that regarding so called confidential information.
I know it goes without saying, but I'd say in the congregation one should take extra precaution when it comes not letting your left hand know what your right is doing.
